Highlights
- 50+ historical sailing ships
Schooners, galleons, brigantines and frigates from the 16th to 19th centuries. Start in a small schooner and work up to a 100-gun first-rate ship of the line.
- Ammo choice decides fights
Round shot breaks hulls, bar shot tears sails, grapeshot cuts down crews, and heated shot sets heavily armored targets on fire. You can also close in and board.
- One seamless Archipelago
One open sea runs from warm southern islands to the icy north and is shared with other captains. Past the edge of the map lies the uncharted Endless Sea.
- Player-driven economy
Haul tobacco and wine from the south or iron from the north, turn raw materials into goods, sell on the exchange, or go fishing to feed your crew and sell the surplus.
- Private islands
Save enough in-game gold to buy your own island. It works as your fleet's stronghold and a trade hub, with income from distant mines and workshops.
- Flotillas and guild wars
Sail with friends in a flotilla, or join a guild to fight for ports and challenge for control of the Archipelago.
About the game
What it is
World of Sea Battle is a free-to-play naval MMO for Windows PC set in the Age of Sail. All players share one seamless sea, the Archipelago, which runs from warm southern islands to the icy north. Beyond the edge of the map is the Endless Sea, uncharted and dangerous. You start in a small schooner and work toward a 100-gun first-rate ship of the line. There are more than 50 historical sailing ships from the 16th to 19th centuries, including schooners, galleons, brigantines and frigates. You can upgrade them, refit their gear and change how they look. Thera Interactive, the developer and publisher, launched the game in Steam Early Access on October 21, 2025.
Why it hooks you
Combat comes down to wind, course and ammo. Round shot smashes hulls, bar shot tears sails, grapeshot thins out crews, and heated shot sets heavily armored ships on fire. If cannons aren't enough, close in and board.
Away from combat, players run the economy. You can haul tobacco and wine from the south or iron from the north, turn raw materials into finished goods and sell them on the exchange. Fishing is another option: the catch feeds your crew and you can sell what's left. Or you can skip honest work, board merchant ships and sell their cargo in port. With enough gold you can buy a private island, which becomes your fleet's stronghold and trade hub.
Who it's for
It suits players who want a shared open world at sea where they choose how to make a living. PvE pirate hunts are an easy way in, and PvP tests your ship and tactics against other captains. Any sail on the horizon could be prey or a threat. Friends can sail together in flotillas. Guilds fight for ports, get into political intrigue and compete for control of the Archipelago, which gives group players a long-term goal. Traders, fishers and explorers can play their own way in the same world.
